Karat - a group of East Berlin (GDR), founded in 1975 by former members of Panta Rhei after the departure of its lead singer Veronica Fisher. The initial membership Karat: vocalist Hans-Joachim "Neumi" Neumann, keyboardist and songwriter, Ulrich "Ed" Swillms, bassist Henning Protzmann, drummer Konrad Burkert, Herbert Dreilich (acoustic guitar) and Ulrich Pexa (electric guitar). In 1976, instead of Burkert and Pexa came Michael Schwandt and Bernd Römer. Neumann in 1977, was drafted into the army and became a vocalist Austrian Herbert Dreilich. Until 1978, the band recorded several singles that, along with new songs and made it's debut LP, which is sometimes called Karat-1 . Music - melodic progressive rock, vocals - in German.
